News: Fortnite gets a 100-player Battle Royale mode later this month

Epic has announced that its early access co-op survival game, Fortnite, will be getting a new 100-player Battle Royale mode, and this is due to release on September 26. Battle Royale takes the game mode popularised by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and meshes it with the destructible environments of Fortnite.

Battle Royale is currently in the public testing phase, so players are able to jump in and try out the new mode, like, right now. Epic Games has warned that the new mode will in all likelihood be a buggy affair, telling players to, ‘Just open the game and select Battle Royale. We expect the servers will probably break and there will be other crashes and bugs during the Public Test.’

There’s clearly a lot of reverence for the most popular game in the genre at the moment, and Epic doesn’t avoid acknowledging the Early Access smash-hit throughout the course of the trailer. The developer said that, ‘We love Battle Royale games like PUBG and thought Fortnite would make a great foundation for our own version,’ adding that, ‘A few months ago Epic’s Unreal Tournament team began experimenting with the mode while the original Fortnite team kept updating the core game.’
